Feb 27/16 Dear Mother Thank you for your letters & Parcels, we are back again in rest billets, when I wrote & said we were busy we were up in the line we got off pretty lucky on our last trip up. it was Ted Pitchfords first trip, & a very good one to get initiated on. the weather was good & both sides pretty quiet, he said he didn't think it was too bad, we had very dry Trenches, the best, Ive been in yet. you havent quite got our address right yet D Company 1st Batt CMR 8th Brigade 3rd Canadian Div. We have had very bad weather here lately quite a lot of snow but I think it is going to clear up again now it feels that way tonight I had a nice long letter from Maggie, yesterday, she writes every week now, it is very nice getting her letters. I was writing in the dark when I started my letter so you must excuse my writing, none of it is very brilliant anyway. I am sorry to hear you are so short of men, I wish I could get a nice job on a Farm myself, I think I would like it better than playing the part, of Target to Fritz. Did Walley Lea have to go yet I guess if he did, he would'nt like "shun" very much. We have a very fine Pipe Band in our Battalion now I only hope they wont put us in Kilts. Everybody is thinking & talking of the Big advance that we shall make this spring I think we are going to give Old Fritz a pretty rough time By-bye. everyone seems to be in the best of spirits out here just now, you would think to see the Boys here that this was some kind of a Picnic. I had a nice letter & parcel form Emmie please thank her for me for it Give my love to all at Home I remain your loving Tommy.
