Dear Aunt Becca:-

Just a few lines to let you know that I am getting on all right except my cough don't get much better. Nearly everybody has a cough and some can hardly speak. When we are in the trenches we have to stay out part of each day and night, sometimes it is wet and cold so you can't wonder at us having a cold and I am not the only on. We are out now for a few days rest but we have to go in the trenches again in a day or two. The people of Ottawa sent Xmas stockings to the 38th Battn. They were pretty late for Christmas but as it happens we got them on my birthday. I hear from Ralph about every two weeks. He says that he is getting along alright but I hope he will not have to come to France. I have not been able to see Earl for about two months.

If you let Uncle Chris read this it will be about the same as if I wrote to him too as I have about six more letters to answer and I don't get a chance to write very often. I will have to close for this time as it is getting late.

With Love to You and Uncle Chris,
From Your Nephew,
XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSammy
