France.

My Dear Mother:-

This afternoon I wrote you a note enclosing P.O. Order for four pounds (No. 1774) and also mailed you a parcel containing a Kodak which must be repaired and then you can line it to Charlie, and a few personal articles. I have a long letter to write you but think I had better wait now 'till I get to the base in France. We leave tomorrow morning at five o'clock. The three Co's, 17,18,19, are going together as units and I expect we sail from Southampton.

I received the two parcels you sent me on Feb. 12th. Many thanks. Everything was fine except the apple which was spoiled. The socks came in fine for I was just in need of two pairs. I am taking the scarf with me, too. There is no need to tell how welcome the cake etc. were. It was also my good fortune to get a parcel today from a Regina friend, Miss MacDowell, she gave me the Bible I sent home, and the cake and candy will be very handy to supplement our rations on the trip to France.

I haven't had a letter from you for many weeks but I believe mail to France is much more regular than that to England.

This 19th Co. is a pretty poorly managed crew but I guess we'll be re-organized. Today was a terrible day. We stood with full packs on for three and a half hours for an inspection by Gen. Turner.

Here is what I am taking to France; one blanket, a suit of underwear, three towels, shaving & cleaning outfit, socks, soap, sweater, jacket, mitts, handkerchief and a few small articles. That is our full kit.

Well, Mother, I will write you a real long letter when I get over. We'll be at the base for some time in all probability.

Yours with love,

Frank.
