Dear Mother

I have decided to get out of here although I really would like to get to the front it is probable that we would not get there till next summer as it seems to be the time when Britain will start fighting. This is only a one horse affair anyway. We cannot get a thing we want and what we do get is no good. Someone is getting a fortune out of it.

An officer from the front was speaking to us the other day and he says that all the men are being kept in the old Country till next summer. Only a few and best trained have gone out yet and there are 3 or 4 million men in training in the old Country. He says that Britain is going to put about 5 million men in next summer all at once and drive at the Germans with all the men and munitions possible. At present they are only playing defensive and making the enemy use up all possible forces. Of course this is strictly confidential and do not say to much about and in no case say that I told you.

I wired you tonight to send any clothes along. I don't know when I'll be leaving but I guess it will not be long. I think I will try to get in another branch of the bank. It will mean more money and besides I am tired of Melfort. I will let you know what I am doing soon.

Things are about the same here. It is [?] again as usual. I thought it had cleared up as the last two or three days have been fine.

I see Alex is near the head of his class and that Doris is to go to the grade 7. I am glad to see them getting on.

Well I will close now with love to all from

Your affectionate son
George Broome
