My dear friends: -

Jack meant much to me. His friendship was one of my prized possessions and I am deeply grieved and saddened by his passing.

Only yesterday I received a long letter from him dated Feb. 23rd in which he acknowledged receipt of two letters from me which had caught up to him in North Africa - and in which he dealt with the International Situation. It was a chatty and thoughtful letter and it is difficult for me to believe he has since died a hero's death.

I wish to extend the sincere sympathy of my wife and myself to you and the family in your hour of grief coupled with my prayer that Lad's richest blessing will abide with you.

Yours very sincerely,

John Diefenbaker
