Dear Lieut Brock,
I received your very kind letter informing me of the circumstances of my brothers death and would like to thank you for your sympathy. I was very glad to hear such praise from Jim's officers and it is comforting to know he did not suffer any lingering pain. Although I have never saw you I (have) can tell by your letter it must be a happy group of men that serve under an officer that can write such a lovely letter to a person who has lost a loved one. Wishing you all the luck in the world and hoping we meet some time.
I remain
Yours in sorrow
Frances Willoughby
