Sergeant Hugh Buie
Sergeant Hugh Buie, Westmount, Montreal , who was killed in action by the bursting of an enemy shell at Passchendaele, on 26th October, 1917, was the eldest son of the late Mr. Archibald Buie, Colonsay, Argyllshire. He went to Canada in September, 1913. Having joined the Colours to fight for King and Country, he crossed overseas with the 146th Battalion from Kingston, Ontario in September, 1916. He was sent to France in December of the same year, and was afterwards transferred to the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles, remaining in the trenches until his death on October 26, 1917. He was only 19 years of age. Previous to enlisting, he was employed at the Grand Trunk shops, and resided with his mother at 63 Belvedere Road, Montreal. A brother is serving with the Imperial Army, and has been twice wounded.
