Dear Mother

I recived a very nice letter from Sadie today, I shall be glad when I come Home for a few days, but the way they are running the base now it will be a week at least before I can come probably a little more they are giving the Boys that had last leave in Canada first show, & I have 92 Hours against me for the time I was up in Calgary with maggie. I think I will be able to get 6 days when I come. We got our Horses the other day, so I dont know what they are going to with us now, we had agreed in Canada to come as Infantry, but they sent our Horses after us.

Just at present we have not been Handed over to the Imperial goverment & every thing is run by the Canadian goverment, & they are dealing us a lot of misery, we are getting about Half the Rations we had in Canada & about twice as much work, all the other Regements get off a 5 oclock in the Evening, & we are not allowed out at all, the Officers & men are all very discontented, & quite a lot are trying to get Transferred to other Regiments.

Sadie said in Her letter that Len had bought a car, I suppose they are making a lot of money now since they got the contract for the Sarcee Military Camp, I wrote to maggie twice since I got here. I've met quite a bunch of Boys from Medicine Hat, that are in Hospital here wounded, they came over with the first Contingent. The people down here shure hold us up, prices are higher if anything than in Canada.

I hope that I can get some new clothes before I come Home, we are a pretty ragged look bunch just now, we've got the same clothes as we had when we first joined The location is lovely just [?] down here, I heard from Medicine Hat yesterday they have had wet weather ever since we left & the mosquitoes are something fierce out there.

give my love to all at Home & thank Sadie for her nice letter I remain your loving Son

Tommy.
