River du Loup
Province of Quebec
Sunday March 12/16
My Dear Wife:
We are in the Province of Quebec & there is still lots of snow. Last night the band of the 45th came in our car & gave us a concert until 10 oclock. The last piece they played was Keep the Home Fires burning & we all sang the chorus. Some singing. All the train hands are French. At the stations the children look healthy & are well dressed. They beg for cigarettes. This morning we passed the place where the Empress of Ireland was wrecked. One of our officers told us this morning that we may be in Halifax 4 or 5 days, as there were 14 troop trains behind us I hope you have got your check from the Govt by this time. you, dear old sweetheart, I am still with you every night, for I have your dear old face on my pillow every night. am going to get a pin for it and wear it inside my tunic, so wherever I go, you go also. I hope you and the children are all well, am sending you the latest in war post cards. They are sold only in Quebec bought it from the newshop in the train. Sent one to [?] but I cut the circle out in hers.
With Love & Kisses
Your Loving Hubby
