Dear Miss Greenway,

I feel it is my duty to write you a line as Mr Phillips heard from Mrs Brown yesterday that it was your brother was killed.

We saw in the paper that there was a Greenaway killed, but we did not know until yesterday that it was your brother.

We are very sorry indeed, and we hope that you and all the family, are as well as can be expected, in this hour of sorrow, for you have the consolation that he died the death of a hero fighting for his country, and I think there must be a Crown in Glory, awaiting all our brave men that may down their lives, in this dreadful and cruel war, and may the Lord help you one and all to feel like the verse in the 8th chapter of Romans says For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time, are not worthy to be compared with the Glory, which shall be revealed in us.
