Dear Aunt Sahra

Although we have been in France since about the 18th of last January this is my first opportunity of dropping you a line.

We had a very pleasant trip across & had about a 24 hr ride across France in a box car with our horses which was not so bad as might be imagined since here we have been doing some very fair shooting & I suppose Fritz will very soon be "straffing" us.

Most of the fighting seems to be done by the artillery & await the day we witness some very intensive & to the occupants very exciting air fights.

There is quite a lot of mud about & we are busy just now trying to fix up our lines a bit. We are holding a very hot part of the line I believe & should consequently see some hard fighting.

It is very difficult to find time to write just now. So I do hope Auntie you will excuse my brevity & this awful scrawl.

We have just heard about the loss of the Parliament Bldgs over at Ottawa & all feel very sorry about it.

The weather is still wet & chilly & we are looking forward for spring. The Germans where all through this part & their atrocities over still fresh among the inhabitants.

[Line unreadable due to fold]

already & find it interesting at night to watch the star shells which throw a very powerful flare & light up everything.

Well I will have to close now. But will try & do better next time

21st Battery 6th Howitzer Brigade C.F.A. c/o Army post Office London. Belgium

With kindest love & Regards to all.
Your loving Nephew.
Arthur
