Dear Mr Mackenzie,

If you will excuse a scrawl here goes.

I am ashamed of myself not having sent the Grove Cup to you long before this, I am enclosing a cheque to cover payment for same.

I had a pretty hard time of it this summer, our Company being in one of the hottest parts of the line and suffering pretty heavily, I was in Blighty for two or three weeks in Hospital having breathed in a wee bit too much gas.

I am now in another Ry. Battalian, the 4th, so my address is 4th Can. Ry. Battalion, B.E.F. France

I have a souvenir I am saving for you, I wish I could send it, but the censors are strict.

Hugh has just left for Canada as I am afraid Mother is very ill and one of us had to go, Peter is in Bagdad still having the time of his young life, Gordon is still in England, he has been testing aeroplanes there now for over eight months.

I must close as I have had a tough day of it and am awfully tired.

With kind regards to Mrs. Mackenzie & the children.
Every your affec. Friend
