Elimville, Oct 6,1917

To Mr & Mrs Henry Johns,

Dear Friends,-

On behalf of Elimville Adult Bible Class we bring this message of sympathy to you in this hour of your sorrow we feel that it will be a source of comfort to you to have this word of sympathy from each and every member of the Class, though so feebly expressed by us.

We would speak of Earl as we knew him, kind, good and true. Earl was a brave soldier and a manly man. He was a true patriot. He gave his life for his country. His love for his friends was great. He gave his life for us, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15,13)

You gave your son with tears of sorrow but without reservation or regret. you are, therefore, sharing in his immortal glory, won on the fields of France.
"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy" (Psalm 126,5)

We share in your grief. Our tears mingle with yours in your sorrow. Our prayer is that " the God of all comfort, who comforteth us in all our tribulation may comfort you" (2 Cor 1,3-4) He has promised,- Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.

We shall keep in loving remembrance, Earl Johns, from boyhood until September 12th 1917,a member of Elimville Sunday School, and for two years an officer of the Adult Bible Class, holding office when he enlisted.

We are sure Earl could say with the Canadian soldier, who wrote on the Somme battlefield,-

"I would not live when done my task is here
For I can heed His summons without fear
He died for me,
He lives,
So when from scenes of earth He beckons hence
To fairer realms, t'will be sweet recompense,
Forever more
With Him."
