Dear Mother & Father

Just a few lines hoping you are quite well as it leaves us at present my hand is alright now but is left a scar hope Alf & Lucy & children are alright & Alf ear is better We had a letter from Annie & Beat & they was surprised to hear we had reached hear so quick we are exspecting to get a pass later on so we can get up there to see them for 4 days cannot get no longer so we will have to make shift with that. We are getting very good food here roast beef for dinner and eggs for breakfast. We get lots of time off to go down to Folkstone because we have Saturday & Sunday afternoons off if we can get off we are gong to Dover next Sunday. We are getting hard training here out marching every afternoon for 12 or 16 miles & up the worst hills they can find with full pack on & it is good & hot here now we wear no tunics on drill. We are in a battalion who have been to the front & they here is only about fifty out of 1000 men returned It is a big camp here it stretches for miles & when we down town when nobody but soldiers & the wounded soldiers you would be surprised arms off legs off and some blind. Dear Mother we had a lucky excape today Caharlie had to go up to the officer & they asked him if he had any infantry training & he said no they had picked 15 men out to go to the front so they picked all old soldiers so Charlie got out of it. When Beat wrote she told us not to be surprised to see Tommy come into camp when is he down this way but if he come I don't suppose he would know us well Dear mother this is all we can write this time so I will close this Short letter

with kindest love
