Sun. Evening

Dear mom,

I have just finished eating a terribly big supper, and it being a hot day I am quite incomfortable. I am eating very big meals and I certainly enjoy them. At breakfast I have coffee to drink, at dinner as much milk as I can drink, and at supper we have cocoa. Besides this I buy cakes and pie at the canteen.

I just found out that I forgot to send my suit coat and vest. The corporal had it and was trying to find the owner. I also kept my shaving kit as we weren't issued with razors but I will be sending them both home soon at the governments expense.

It has been very hot this past week and its by no means a pleasure drilling out under the hot sun. We will probably be getting our double e cards tomorrow and then I will be having a look at Edmonton. When you do something out of place they can take your cards away for a couple of days but if you have them on a Saturday you can leave here at 5 P.M. and you don't have to report back till midnight on Sun.

Jack Lloyd and Jim Clark are two of my best friends. Jack had gone to Varsity for the 3 years as mech. Engineer but had to stop because of no money. Jim is from P.A. and has just finished school.

There was church this morning and I believe everyone in our but attended. It is not compulsory and it only lasts 30 min. They also gave us the new testament in true Air Force blue. We can practically do what we like on Sun. but we are still C. B.'d. I polished buttons and read. There is a very nice library here with all kinds of diff. books and magazines. I hope every station I am at is as nice as Edmonton.

After I had finished dinner yesterday and was on my way out of the mess hall, I happened to glance around and I saw 6'4 Harry Head. He has been here for 9 weeks and expects to be on for another nine. He is on security guard here and it is very hard to get out of. He came up to our hut last night and was going on guard at 11 P.M. Charles is still in Brandon. He has been there since March and Harry says he is very sick of it.

There has been some U.S. fighter planes stopping here to refuel. They are on their way to Alaska. Some were flying pretty low and you can just see a streak across the sky as they pass over the depot.

I wrote dad a couple of nights ago and told him to forward it on to you. Those inoculations, vaccinations, blood tests, and T.B. tests are really tough, when they come one after the other and all on the same arm. We had our readings the next day and I considered myself very lucky in having the inoculations both negative. I only have to have one every two weeks for the next six weeks. I wrote Earnest last night I'm going to write Gordon H. and Bob G. the next two as they both asked me to.

There is a picture show here tonight at 8:30, I believe it is called "Love Before Breakfast" with Carole Lombard. It is free to all airmen.

I'm feeling a little easier now since I started this letter. I'm sure I am gaining in weight every day. Well mom I will say good bye now till the next time.

Your loving son George,

P.S. I have not had any mail in the six day's I have been here, but am expecting some tomorrow. Be sure and send me the Kel. Radio.
