"Kingswood" House.
13th Aug 1918.
Dear Mother.
Just rec'd your letter of July 24th and was indeed glad to hear from you, it was about a month between them and the last one from home.
Had a letter from Jean enclosing a picture of Louis and herself. Louis looks the same old boy and is quite sporty in his uniform, but he could always wear clothes couldn't he!
It was too bad Mrs [?] could not see Harry on his way through but such are the ways of this little war, was glad to hear that he had got back to himself again.
Had a letter from Bill Nick saying he had been out to see you and said that you were all very well.
I think the picture you refer to was a chap named Driscoll and I seem to remember having heard him say that he came from Sherbrooke - he is now in Canada and promised to call on Dad.
You ask how I am feeling - can honestly say my health was never better, but as you know I was very seldom troubled with ill health - My weight is 145 but expect to make it reach 155 before many months.
I intend having some decent pictures taken very soon and you shall see for yourself.
Nothing new to report from here except to say that the last few weeks have been the happiest since I joined up. - The dear Sisters here seem to work on a system, to try and make one forget that there is such a thing as a war on, they always meet a fellow half way, and cant express the wonderful thrill it gives me to have a chat with a "canadian girl"
Good old Canadian girls - they have it on these girls over here in every one way.
I wish dad would send a box of chocolates to the "Sisters Mess"
Massey-Harris Cons. House

It is impossible to get decent chocolates over here and all the girls crave for some Page & Shaw choc's. There are six sisters so he can judge the size of box.
If dad wishes to do this for me, ask him just to put the word ‘Johnson-Lachine" as then they would not feel to obliged to acknowledge same - puting me in an awkward position.
Hope you are all well - will write soon - love to all.
Your loving Son
Bill.
