My dear Alex

The other day I had a letter from [?] Nessie [?] (Dicks daughter) in which she gave an account of an accident to some Canadian Officers near their place in Nottingham, and as two of them were your old boys she asked me to let you know that they were delighted that they fell into the hands of one of your cousins W Cary & Lt Buckanan of Hamilton [?] Is it not strange how quite things happen, I enclose you Cary's letter to D [?] which she sent me

Sorry I did not see more of you at Salt but it was all so sad and formal I do hope your dear Mother is keeping well your father looked quite broken up when I saw him getting out the [?] for [?] but he kept [?]. How sorry I am for it all - Give Helen my love
Always Yours Very Sincerely
JW[?]
