My Dear Betty:

Am hoping that you receive this Saturday afternoon, I am trying hard for a pass, but it seems doubtful whether I shall get it or not - its pretty hard to get leave just now; If I get it I shall come on the train which arrives in Wp'g at 9 P.M Saturday, so if you like to go down to the bottom of the street about 9-30 you may meet me.

If I do not Come you may send me some of the short-bread, also if you would buy me a pipe & send it along - it was certainly a big but rather pleasant surprise to have Grandma Flett & Lizzie turn up like that, you would have a nice visit, I would have liked to have seen them, No word yet about leaving, but I have a good idea that it will be somewhere around the 25th.

The 184th went at last they had quite a time getting away, you had better make sure of your potatoes at 70cts. You must not be disappointed if I do not come this week end, & don't let the kiddies count on me coming at all. If I come we'll pay Mattie a visit on Sunday .P.M. & I don't think that we'll bother about Church unless we go across the way P.M. Did Hatfield call yet?

Have been vaccinated a second time (Tuesday) the first did not take, & I guess that the second will not either.

Will rush this off on the 9 P.M mail.

If I should not come this weekend you had better call Colonel Lightfoot up on the long distance phone on Monday morning or perhaps noon would be better about 12-30 P.M, talk to him & not to anyone else, & ask him if I cannot get home for a day or two = tell him you need me to fix things up etc - etc & if someone is sick just about then so much the better. Its too bad when one has to do such tings to get a pass for a day or two, but the end justifies the means in such a case.

The boys are getting very discouraged & when they do something definite soon I'm afraid there will be trouble. It's a shame the way they are treating them, however we'll have to make the best of it. Well Good-Night dear best love & kisses to yourself & kiddies

Will

Tell Shirley I was very glad to get the painting & message & I'll try & come soon to sleep in Billy's cot. Daddy
