My Dear Betty:

Well I guess that I am getting away at last, expect to cross within the next day or two, so that by the time you receive this I shall be in the thick of it unless the war is over. I hope that I shall be able to get a cable to you, but in case I cannot, shall give you my address - I am giving up my rank in order to get across & am going to the "Canadian Mounted Rifles." Enclosed are a few negatives & prints which I took, only one or two are any good - I am sending one a very good one indeed later on of the soldiers' grave I told you about - you can put them by. I am going to try & write a long letter before I cross in the meantime dear don't worry - your dear faces will be ever before me & shall always be thinking of you - hope & pray for the best - you know what one of our poets say

" The best is yet to be -
The half for which the first was made."

Kiss & hug the dear children for me, & let them kiss & hug you for daddy. My fondest love. God bless you dear & supply all your need.

your loving husband
Will
