My Dearest Betty;-
The first stage of my journey home, hope to be in England in the course of a day or two, & it will be interesting to see whether these letters reach you first or myself. To morrow is my birthday & it will be a happy one with the thought of you & the kiddies waiting in the little hours for Daddy's return. So keep smiling dearest & when I get home we'll soon straighten out all the worries etc, You will have heard of my return long before these few lines reach you. I wonder if the kiddies will know me? just to think that a few days ago, I was within sound & reach of the enemy's guns & now the battleline is a thing of the past, it is hard to realize it yet. Don't go to any trouble dear Betty in preparing for my home-coming all I want is to see you & the kiddies that will be joy enough for the moment just take things easy & save your strength.
Remember me kindly to all the friends especially those who have interested themselves on your behalf - I hope to be able to thank them in person soon. In joyous anticipation of the near meeting & with fondest love & kisses. May God bless you & keep you - Good-Night my dear.
