My Dearest Betty;-
Good news at last, last Sunday (10th) evening word came to me that my application for leave to Canada had been granted, I had given up all hope myself & I have been careful not to give any reason to hope for I would not like you to be disappointed a second time.
I do not know particulars yet, but understand that it will be leave for 3 months.& without doubt when I come back, I shall be able to get my discharge or at least stay permanently in Canada. However you & the kiddies will be overjoyed at the near prospect (DV) of seeing me.
I Am on my way down from the line, am writing this at Y.M.C.A. Hqs & expect to leave the railhead for the Base tonight just think a few hours ago I was well up toward the front line & now I have looked my last upon it.
How much we have to thank God for my dear. You will probably receive this before I get across, but hope to follow it soon. Am going to cable you from England also when I land in Canada. Maybe your plans now for the reception etc. My best & fondest love to you & the kiddies. God bless you my dears, in joyous anticipation.
