Dear Mrs Gould,
It is with profound regret that I write regarding the news already conveyed to you that your Son, R163068 Flight Sergeant Albert N. Gould, is missing from Air Operations on the 4th November, 1944.
The aircraft in which your Son was a member of the Crew took off on an Operational Sortie over enemy territory but I regret to say failed to return to base. No messages were received from the aircraft after take off and nothing has so far been heard of it or any member of the Crew.
There is always the possibility that they may have come down by parachute or made a forced landing in enemy territory, in which case news of this would take a considerable time to come through, but you will be immediately advised of any further information that is received.
Your Son had shown great keenness in his work during the time he has been with the Squadron, and proved himself to be a most efficient Wireless Operator. He was also a popular member of a fine Crew and had always displayed a splendid courage and determination in the execution of his duties.
Your Son's effects have been gathered together and forwarded to the Royal Air Force Central Depository, where they will be held until better news is received, or in any event for a period of at least six months, before being forwarded to you through the Administrator of Estates, Ottowa.
In expressing the sincere sympathy both of myself and the entire Squadron, may I say that I can well appreciate your feelings at this anxious time and join with you in hoping and praying that your Son is safe.
Yours sincerely,
M. H. de L. Everest.
