Dear Sister:

To acknowledge your letter of Aug 23rd which I received just before going on leave. For I expect you see all the letters I write home as they are generally completed and give all my news. If I write to more than one I am likely to get mixed up and forget what I have said so I hope you get all the news from them and will excuse my oversight of you.

I noticed about Lieut. Horne being wounded. One or two of the boys in our battery knew of him before he went to France when he was in training in England.

Thanks very much for the snaps. Any enclosing one I had taken on the boat which you have already seen. Do not know of anything at present which I am in need of as I can get practically everything I require at present, and our requirements are not great. Anyway as we expect to leave for France any time in the next couple of weeks it would not be advisable to send anything until I get settled there (see enclosure). A lady friend of mine in Toronto was at the Western about the time you graduated. She was there for an operation for appendicitis. Sorry now you had not met her as I am sure she would have been glad of your acquaintance while she was there. Heard from her today for the first time. She is now in Collingwood. Got a fine big box of eats from home today and they will be ravenously devoured during the next few days. This kind of stuff does not keep long. Our meals here are fairly good when we get enough. Sometimes our appetites are enormous and we have to go to the YMCA to satisfy them. Anyway we generally have tea and cakes there every night about 4 P.M.

Hope you enjoy your work there and if you can find time will drop me a line to same address. Remember me to Miss Locke if you see her.

With love from your brother
Rob
