Dear Kiddo

I wrote these few lines hoping to find you and the children all well as it leaves me at present, I got the parcel you sent from the exhibition, all right I also got a parcel at the same time from Tommy with fruit Loaf in it, there must have been at least two or three pounds of it, and golly, wasn't it good, it was the first I had seen since I left England but like all good things it went quick, everything is dear here, last night we had to pay two pence for a little candle to light up our dug-out, which by the way we had to build for ourselves, they are easy to make just sandbags and sods, piled up, to make the walls and one rubber sheet to cover the top for a roof, quite simple isn't it, never mind its warm and it keeps the rain out in fact we sleep quite comfortable if it wasn't for the noise of bombardment, which keeps up all night long, it is a corker I tell you, this morning I had the privilege of being inside on of the much talked of tanks they are just marvelous well how are you and the children getting on, have you quite work yet as I told you to, Bill and I were just talking about the nice choc cake you use to make, also we wished we had some just now. I suppose you could not make any now and send them, could you, also some of those red pastilles from eatons and some chocolate bars nut, milk and cream and I will send you some money to pay for it, we cant get anything of that kind here, or I would not ask you to send it well I guess will close my letter now, so ta-ta for the present, from your Loving Husband Herbert
