Dear Mom & Dad,

Just a few lines to say many thanks for the box. It came very fast, was in swell shape, and I was really glad to get it. I had a 48 last Tues. & Wed. so I thought I would hitch-hike to Blackpool and see Aunt Molly, because I expected to be going to Naples before Christmas. She is in good health. Joyce and Jim are fine too. Joyce will be in London all next week in connection with her work, but I don't think I'll be able to get in to see her. This Naples detachment is a very uncertain thing. It will probably leave a couple of days before Christmas, or not at all. That's the way these things happen. The speed with which the "repats" are going out, makes things a little brighter. Although I would hate to get home just as winter's setting in next year. As you can see by the letterhead, I just found out I'm in Gloucester and not Wiltshire. The country line runs through the airfield, so I work in Wiltshire and live in Gloucester. Sounds crazy but this whole country's crazy. You were smart to get out of it when you did. I got a bunch of cards but haven't gotten around to sending them yet. I thought of sending Chatty a card but perhaps I hadn't better. My pen has gotten me into difficulty before, so I am sort of off women till I get out of this circus called the R.C.A.F.
Tell Uncle Lin & Aunt Eva that I received their swell Christmas box and thank them very much for me, please. I'll put a note in with the Xmas card I send. I hope this finds you both well and also Gwen, Jim & Frankie. I can't say I'm well, but what can I do about it? So long for now. Your loving son,
Joe.

P.S. I heard from Mr. Inman today.
