my cold & cough hanging on still,
but not bothering me much in these
comfortable quarters.

Dear Mother,

Have you heard about poor old Frank's death. He died last week, & is to be buried tomorrow. I am hoping to get leave to go to the funeral, but may not get off in time as my mornings are pretty busy what with lighting fire, cleaning boots, making beds etc.

Thank goodness I'm not under canvas just now for its rained hard lately & a taxi coming for the Burtand Camp to here 7 miles got stuck & had to be hailed out of the much 3 times. I suppose your having nice bright weather in Guelph now, I don't let myself think of going under canvas on Thurs.
