France Oct 23/17 Dear Flo Received two letters from you today one typewritten & one in with mothers so I will have make one letter answer the both you see I had quite a laugh about that time of long ago licking maple syrup I had quite forgotten the incident until you mentioned it if so they were good old days but I don't think we will be able to go through there again for you see we are no longer kid Brother & Sister but are now grown up and I might even go so far as to say unfortunately, but we are still the same in one way at least and I think we could really have a splendid time in the wilds of Muskoka. And if I get home safe I have no doubt it could be arranged with ease. The other laugh I had was over your surely wonderful knowledge of France in general in one thing you are as wise as myself namely the tanks in action for the only place I have tank in action was moving pictures while I was in England. I think it was the Battle of the Somme I saw, I have never had the misfortune (of course I should say good fortune but I don't) to follow the tanks but I may have some of those days one can never tell in France what is coming next you know, but it was your question as to whether I was anywhere near no mans land that made me laugh well you see the censors will not allow me to tell where we are but I don't think even the censor will mind in this case so I will answer your question, yes my dear I am quite close to no mans land where we are in the Front line for you see no mans land is that unhealthy little piece of country between our Front line and that of the enemy or Fritz and it does not make any difference what part of the front it happens to be, so now you know all about it, Eh. so you also thought you would like to see heavy gun fire in reality too well let me give you a tip just be satisfied with watching it in the pictures for you would soon lose your ardor if you saw much of it especially if some of the big one happened the uncomfortably close and made you sit down suddenly whether you wanted to or not, so take it from me dear the best place to watch war is at the Allen Theater in Storland right at home. Well I am just waiting for that parcel with the socks that you knitted for I never would have believed you could knit a pair of socks if you had not told me yourself. Well Bye Bye for the present give my regards to Bill. Love to all Frank.
